Quote:  Missed it.  Sorry.  I was not assigned newsletter duties until after the quote.

Greeter:  Turner Lewis

Next week’s greeter:  Josh Traeger.

Next week’s scribe:  Toni Ciampaglione.  Who is that?  And did I spell that name right?  11 letters.  Why would you change your name to an 11 letter word?

I digress, sorry.

Please check the scribe list on the website.  It has been updated and the dates have all changed.  The two scribes after Toni are Ellen Smith (Nov. 5) and Valarie Stuart (Nov. 12).

Guests:  Dave Evans, from WVEW, John Mabie, Esq., a nooner, Davie, Evie and Lucy.

Absent: Ooops.  I forgot to get the list.  But not many.  We had good attendance.

Announcements:

We got mentioned in the World Rotary Magazine.  Yes, the one you get every month and recycle unread.  I will buy 5 cards for the first person who e-mails me with what page we are mentioned on and what the topic was.

Noon Club will be meeting at the American Legion every Thursday at 12:15 starting on October 23.  A great place to get make ups and get a wonderful lunch.  Congratulations to Tristian for the new customer.

Toni C introduced the student Rotarians and gave them sage advice:  “Don’t listen to Will.”  2 of our three student Rotarians are, courtesy of BUHS, the FBLA program and Ms. Cornell:

  • Rebecca Freeman and Casey Manning.

We will get another Student Rotarian from Hinsdale shortly.

Please introduce yourself, make them feel at home, and sign their list.  Ed will be watching.

Event:  This Saturday, October 25.  We are building a playground at Morningside Shelter.  Please volunteer by contacting Ellen.  We need volunteers from 9 AM to 11 AM and then 11 AM to 1 PM.  Bring tools, or you can play with other’s tools.

Overflow Shelter:  We are making meals the 2nd Friday of each month, starting in November.

3 on 3 tournament will be on Saturday, March 14th.  Save the date.  Toni recruited Jerry and Shawna to help her with the contact list and Sadie to update the mailing list.  If you have ideas for new sponsors or know who to contact at a certain business, please share that with Toni.  Our sponsorships have been falling off.

Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition will be asking the Board for $150.  Board Members:  Please plan on attending the next meeting, Thursday, November 6, so we have a quorum.

Event:  This Monday, October 27, Ross will be the speaker at the Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the Retreat from 7 AM or 9 AM on employee engagement.  All are welcome to come to support one of our members.

Tristem:  Will be meeting with the noon club in December to make a pitch for support of the nutrition project.  Todd agreed to join him.

Kevin:  Project Feed the Thousands starts on November 7.  A signup sheet was circulated.  We don’t do the pick up on weekends.  Please plan on signing up for at least one pick up.  Best time to do them is 2 or 3 in the afternoon as the Drop In Center closes at 4:30 every day.  Bring plastic grocery bags.

Birthdays:  None.

Cards:

Something of Diamonds.  Drew won.  Congratulations.

Bowl of Life:

No time for the bowl.

Brags

Shawna:  A small and a big brag worth $20. Her Mom has been moved into an assisted living facility now and is happy.

Big brag:  She has a new job.  She is going to be the Senior Director of Marketing at Vista Higher Learning in Boston.  Congratulations.  She will be asking the Board for a leave of absence but still hopes to be involved in projects as she will still live in the Brattleboro area.

Damon:  For his very fast sons who did great in a couple of recent races.  Torin is the second fastest 5th grader in the State of New Hampshire.  Pretty cool.

Ellen:  She is 8 days into her new job at Landmark and is loving it.  They are really transforming kids there.

Marcy:  For Jason and Brattleboro Subaru who got her into a 2013 Nissan Sentra.  Also for her daughter who is on track to cover the “3 foundations of physical fitness for young people: swimming, gymnastics and track and field.’

Jill:  Who just got back from a 2 week vacation in Morocco and Portugal.

Also, she announced the Saturday, November 1 benefit concert for the Retreat:  The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus.

Drew:  For Rescue, Inc. who had three crews at the Keene Pumpkin Festival riots.  They treated 30 plus patients.

Speaker

Jim Maxwell introduced Dave Evans from WVEW.  The successor of Radio Free Brattleboro.  They are a legitimate low power FM radio station.  They use 100 watts and have offices in the Hooker Dunham Building and an antennae at the Austine School.

Jim hosts “Art talk” on Friday afternoons between 4 and 5.  Tune in and call in.

They are a 501©(3) and are an independent non-commercial station with c. 42 different DJs.  They broadcast for 3 to 5 miles and you can stream their station on line.

Apparently they have listeners all over the country because they get about 20 e-mails a week asking for shows from outside the area.

“Come down, check it out, get a show.”

The End

The small print:  This newsletter is only a rough facsimile of what actually occurred.  If you really want to know what happened, you should have been there because, after all, a lot happens at our meetings.
