President Todd started our meeting with 2 quotes from Paul Harris....

In the clashes between ignorance and intelligence- ignorance is generally the aggressor!

Permanent superiority has never been realized by any nation in history. Hundreds of empires show….”After the rise, comes the fall.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Josh announced that the playground work at Morningside Shelter is not complete. He is planning on another work session this Saturday (Sunday if it is raining) from 10am to 1pm. Really needs volunteers, especially people who know how to use tools!!!
  2. Kevin passed around the schedule for the Project Feed the Thousands pick-ups. It will start on November 7th and continue through the first of the year. There are few holes in the schedule that could use volunteers.
  3. Linda announced that the next Charity Quiz Night will be on November 12th at Ramunto’s. Sign-up sheet was passed around….volunteers are needed.

INDUCTED NEW MEMBER:

President Todd inducted Mark Loevy-Reyes who is an attorney here in Brattleboro. Make sure to say hello and introduce yourself to him.

CARDS:  Ace of Diamonds..… and the winner is none other than one of our new student Rotarians Casey Manning!!

BIRTHDAYS: We paid tribute to Jonas Salk who would have been 100 today, as he is the creator of the Polio vaccination…..a cause very near and dear to all Rotarians! Additionally Ed Dews was serenaded by our own Rotary Birthday Singers. Ed was actually born on Halloween….explains a lot!

BOWL OF LIFE:

  1. This member was the Station Manager at his/hers college radio station. Will Shakespeare was picked to go first and he guessed the obvious Kevin Yager who guessed Jon (because he was heckling him) who guessed Sandy Shriver who guessed Jim who wasn’t there so he guessed Sandy Ladd. Sandy correctly guessed Sadie. Sadie explained that she first was the music director then the station manager at WDUB….yes it was called the dubbie!

BRAGS:

Linda: Bragged for Sandy Shriver and Aviva Wertkin who volunteered to co-chair the Charity Quiz Bowl after she moves. She also bragged for her recent trip and house hunting expedition in New Orleans.

Mark: Happy to be a member so he could brag....excited to be a member! Also bragged for a panel in which he will take part in tonight at Keene State.                                      Race and Criminal Justice Post-Ferguson: A Discussion With Experts

Wednesday, October 29, 2014 · 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m

Toni: Has been a while since last bragged- had a little catching up to do. Ran my first 5k in Florida in the beginning of October. Bragged for Jason who is helping out finding a new car for son Brett as he totaled his car Friday driving home from work. Bragged/Fined Sandy Shriver for not only giving me grief about changing my last name in last week’s newsletter but he couldn’t even count the letters in it correctly.

Jill: Bragged for the Boston Gay Mans Chorus performing at the Latchis on November 1st, a benefit concert for the Retreat. If you want tickets call soon, as of yesterday not a lot left.

Bill Stevens: Apologized for being absent as of late but promises he will be attending more often. Also welcomed new member Mark and had a dollar left to give me grief about the length of my brag. “Longest brag he could remember that didn’t include Kevin Yager”.

Sadie: Fined herself for forgetting to introduce Bill this morning and also invited members to join her at Jen Moyse’s show on Saturday night at the Hooker Dunham Building. Contact her if you would like to go to the show and have a Rotary group.
