Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary
Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, April 5 2017

President Damon Kindopp brought the meeting to order following the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:15 (I think) with the following quote;

This Day in History: 1792 - Then President of The United States George Washington exercises his authority to veto a bill, the first time this power is used in The United States.
     - from history.com in case anyone was wondering; George Washington exercises the first presidential veto of a Congressional bill on this day in 1792. The bill introduced a new plan for dividing seats in the House of Representatives that would have increased the amount of seats for northern states. After consulting with his politically divided and contentious cabinet, Washington, who came from the southern state of Virginia, ultimately decided that the plan was unconstitutional because, in providing for additional representatives for some states, it would have introduced a number of representatives higher than that proscribed by the Constitution.

This Day in History: 1984 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar became the highest scoring player in NBA history with 31,421 career points. He is still the career record holder with 38,387points.

This Day in History: 1987 - "Married with Children" debuts on the Fox network.

Rotary project of the week - BMOF Golf Tournament. September 25 2017 Meck South Country Club. TPC Piper Glen (Mark your calendars). Under the leadership of Steve Baune, adopted "Beds for kids of Charlotte(BFK)" as one of the main organizations for which we provide financial support. Steve was the Chairman of the Board for BFK, and his passion has moved many people to taking an active role in the development and growth of this wonderful organization.
Steve managed to incorporate the motto of Rotary, "Service above Self.", not only into his Charity work but also into his weekend golf rounds. At TPC Piper Glen, it was customary to hear Steve walk onto the driving range on a Saturday or Sunday morning and shout out, "BMOFs today!" which means that he has put out a cooler of ice, Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and Tito's Vodka for everyone to enjoy in his backyard on hole #5 (i.e. Bloody Marys on Five).

Our friend Steve passed away in August 2014 after a two year battle with Cancer. As a result his friends and fellow Rotarians, decided to step into his shoes and continue his work with Beds for Kids, while also taking care of Steve's deprived BMOF drinkers. And what better way to honor friend Steve a.k.a. "Baunzo" than an Annual Golf tournament with lots of BMOFs.

For two years in a row the tournament has been able to raise over $40,000, which is the goal Steve set for us before he passed away.
